Hello all,

I am working on removing the motor from a 72 CB750. I removed all the
motor mount bolts and brackets, but it does not seem like there is a way to
pull out the motor. It seems to hangup on the frame. Do I need to remove
portions of the motor then lift out? Help appreciated.

Thanks,
Kyle.

I've done it with the aid of a helper - no engine disassembly required
although removing the oil filter from the front would help. You've
removed the carbs, yes? I used 2 pipes as handles/hangars tied to the
engine tightly, at the top, one in the front and one at the rear. I
stood on one side of the bike and my helper on the other and we lifted
the engine using the pipes and slowly wiggled it out. Needed to angle
and tilt the engine a bit to clear the frame, but that's easy with the
pipes as handles. Also, without the weight of the engine, the frame is
easier to tip over - careful.

The valve cover will probably hit the horizontal steering head brace if you
lift the
front of the engine first, so lift the back of the engine and tilt it so the
cylinder head angles down a little.

Then lift the engine clear of the frame.

One old biker told me that he didn't like to struggle with the 180 pound lump
by himself, so what he would do is lay the chassis on its side, work the
motor out, and then pick up the chassis, leaving the motor sitting on its
side.
