No i didnt mean the miles, the price is steep.

Plus rust and or corrosion in the cylinder/ring area is a possibility.
Fuel system issues due to stale and or dried out fuel systems
full of gum and varnish.

Not likely with fuel injection

in 8 years? Hardly. Even tires are still good after 8 years as long as
they haven't been sitting outside in direct sun. I have a '98 I bought
last year with less than 10k miles on it and it is primo.

Voltages regulators do tend to burn out one of the six power diodes
frequently, but it really isn't the
diode's fault so it's hard to say what the service life of an original
equipment regulator would be if it wasn't for the excessive number of
electrical connectors in the Honda's wire harness.
All those electrical connectors make it easy for a mechanic to make money by
swapping parts, but the excess number of connections causes problems in the
voltage regulator sensing when it's time to
regulate the voltage.
The voltage that would tell the regulator to shunt excess power to ground is
burned up in the electrical connectors instead.
Some Honda owners have gone through their wiring harness and eliminated as
many excess connections as possible. You can tell when a plastic connector is
getting too hot. It turns black and then melts.
You can probably buy an improved aftermarket Electrosport voltage regulator
by mail order for about 1/3rd of what Honda would charge you. It's probably
around $120 by now.
