I am looking at buying a 97 1500 classic it has 12000 miles on it and
the guy wants $4500 for it. Is that a good price ?

Hey Lewis,
Depends on a number of things.
The condition, mileage, and optional / extra equipment all play a part
in the price in addition to whether or not the bike needs anything or
it is ready to go.
by comparison, in my area (Northeast) a similar bike is valued at
$4620. for Retail... this is from the kelley blue book site:
April 4, 2006
1997 Kawasaki VN1500-D2 Vulcan Clsc
2-Cylinder
4-Stroke
1500cc
Suggested Retail Value $4620
The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value is representative of
dealers' asking prices and is the starting point for negotiation
between a consumer and a dealer. This Suggested Retail Value assumes
that the unit has been fully reconditioned and is in excellent
condition. Mileage/condition and additional equipment may have a
substantial impact on the value shown above. This value also takes into
account the dealers' profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions
and other costs of doing business. The final sale price will likely be
less depending on the unit's actual condition, popularity, type of
warranty offered and local market conditions.
Good luck to you and keep the rubber side down.

Cool Thanks alot. It is a realy nice looking bike and I know the guy
has taken really good care of it. I don't know too much about the 1500
classic not sure if it is a good bike or not.

It is a pretty decent machine. I know a couple of guys who have vulcans
who swear by them. Twin sound with the advantage of fuel injection.
vroom vroom.

The newer ones have fuel injection but not the 97 model. But still a nice
machine. As for the price, are you buying it to sell it or to ride it?
If you are buying it for an investment (see Harley Davidson) then no.
If you are buying it to ride it and you know the guy who had it took
good care of it, it may well be a steal. One Vulcan owners opinion.
