Yeah I know how CVT works, but:

I always wondered if the standard Scooter CVT system could be
simplified by omitting 1 of the Clutches.....

Do we really need 2 clutches on such woosy motors, since they just
add to the slack of linkage.....and power to the rear wheel is reduced.

For instance Y not just lighter rollers to a direct drive, OR
stronger clutch shoe springs.....I think some models have been made like
that, somewhere maybe the front wheel drive CVTs could have been that way...

I might suppose that the chain drive T-Max or other shaft drive, may
be a variant to the single clutch aspect???

There is no slack, and no linkage.

and power to the rear wheel is reduced

There in no loss in power above full engagement RPM

.

Rollers sense engine speed, the spring senses torque. Two different
things and neither is related to the clutch.

I think some models have been made like

CVTs on cars are a different design that uses an electromagnetic clutch
and a metal belt that pushes segments instead of pulling a belt. It's
much more complicated and unsuited for your wossy motor.

The chain drive scooters use a simple centrigual clutch and nothing
else. They are inefficent and have very poor performance.

I often call the Vario Plate/rollers a Clutch.......

That's referred to as an automatic transmission with
porcelain/asbestos bands segment squeezes on the drive/driven changed
gear....CVT on cars is just like a scooter, only a bit more robust...not
much though since these cars are not that heavy....maybe 2 maxi scooters...

Not too many people can say that...the T-Max is known to have a
pretty peppy reaction compared to some scooters..the dual parallel isn't all
that takes it there.

The Constant Variable Transmission (CVT) setup can possibly do
without the "Constant" if you use about 3-->5 tightly sprung clutch shoes
that don't always touch the driven shaft's drive face drum, for the neutral
position.....

You can also get rid of the if the Drive and Counter shaft if you
get the Clutch shoes to rotate in the direction of the wheel....eliminating
the network of gears in the final drive....
But that would only add to more reversal gears at the crankshaft
level.....and since a lot of scooters have no dipstick or window to regulate
the final drive oil level/pressure/quality, it can all be done at the motor
level...

Why are there so many little body parts all over the scooter, rather
than ...maybe 4-->6 large panels, a bucket full of mini screws, nuts, to the
whole Scooter......

Answer: GarageTreeMechanic or they build scooters for a profit hassle to the
OEM, not for the satisfaction of the rider.....but since there isn't too
much that hi-tek for that price, the rider is getting screwed over by the
GarageTreeMechanic.......not news but a refresher...heh!
