Why would you want extended (5") operator footpegs? How does that improve
the comfort/function on a cruiser-type bike?

Why would you want to be able to adjust the seat back and forth in a
car, how does that improve comfort/function.
The answer in both cases is that it adjusts the vehicle to fit the
size of the person. In case you didn't notice, not everyone is the
same size.

Wider footpegs would seem to only accommodate riders with wide feet. I
doubt they'd contribute much to overall comfort, but then I don't equate
cruisers with comfort. My Wing has after-market highway pegs that seem
useless to me. I've never used them, and I just rode 4,128 miles. My feet
feel just fine while poised over the brake pedal and shifter where they
belong. But then I don't flobber along at 45 mph, either....
