Hi All
Hope you'll give me a nice warm welcome! sure you will. Had my first bike
for just over a week- A Geely JL125. Yes I know I'm only a learner!LOL
Any how, was gutted to find out this chinese bike has a max speed of 80km/h
according to a very nice Man from Geely & was just wondering if anyone had
or has had one of these bike, if it went faster than 80km/h & if it can be
derestricted? Any help/ replies will be welcome.
Cheers Jon.

Jon, I don't think it can be de-resricted like some of the scooters.
How many miles do you have on it? Is it even broken in yet? There are
ways to make it faster, but you'll have to wait until the "warranty" is
out since it will void that.
How mechanical are you?

There's currently about 300 km on it, which is about 180 miles? I've got
the manual & it says to run it in for 1000km but it's very hard. Don't get
me wrong, I'm not a spped freak but use it for work, which is on a dual
carriageway & sticking to below 6000rpm as recommended means I'm doing
40-45mph.
There's no warranty to worry about & I've worked in garages/ service my own
cars, so not afraid to get hands dirty. I've done a bit tweaking, bike
would stall when at junction & worked out that the clutch needed adjusting
which I did no problem.
So what ways are there to make it go faster?
BTW thanks for replying & making a new biker feel welcome!

Find a big, long, steep downhill section of road. 8^)
Scooters are not about speed. They're about style. They're about
looking cool and having fun while you learn to ride in relative
safety. When people see a young guy on a radical sportbike, with
matching leathers and graphics on his helmet, they say 'Wow, what a
jerk!' When they see you on your scooter they say 'Wow, that looks
like fun!
Something like 60% of accidents happen to riders in their first year
of riding. I would say you should take it easy the first few months,
learn basic skills like turning and braking, looking out for traffic,
crossing intersections, etc.--and don't worry about top speed. THEN
you can trade in your Geely for something with more CCs.
Besides that, speed is relative to the bike. My first ride was a
Lambretta 200. It topped out around 80 mph but it seemed like twice
as fast because the bike really wasn't designed to go that fast. My
current bike is a Honda ST1100 that (I'm told) will do 120 mph easy,
but I've never tried to see how fast it would go because I'm older now
and not as crazy as I used to be. At 95, though, it feels totally
stable, in fact it's boring. The Lambretta felt like that around 35
mph. So at 80 km/h your Geely will be as exciting as a real sport
bike going 160 km/h. And probably just as dangerous. 8^)

Strange. When I see a young guy on a sportbike with leathers and a
helmet, I think, "Nice, someone who's sensible enough to wear
protective gear."
When I see a person on a scooter, it's normally someone with no
protective gear whatsoever, wearing shorts, a tank top, and maybe
flipflops ... and I think, "Sad, someone who thinks that just because
it's not a motorcycle, it's somehow safer."
