Hey all, new guy here. :)
I’ve got a quick question about leather jackets. I’ve recently gotten
my first motorcycle and I want to have good riding gear. So far all
I’ve gotten is a helmet.
I’ve had my eye on an Icon leather jacket. Are they a good brand, or
should I be looking elsewhere?
Thanks in advance everyone.

I can't really help you with your question, but I can add one of my own.
I'm going to be buying some riding gear before long myself and I will be
needing a Jacket too. I will probably need some good boots as well. My
old ones are a bit worn, but I will probably stick with the same brand,
Sidi (http://www.motonation.com/sidihome.asp ). I've been happy with the
once I own.
I do have a bit of a special requirement. I'm a vegetarian. I don't eat
meat and I try not to use animal products that come from the dead animal
(actually, I've tried unsuccessfully giving up all animal products, but I
just like milk and cheese too much). I'm not religious about it. If
leather is really the best way to go, I'll hold my nose and use leather.
I have leather belts, a leather wallet, leather boots (that I make last a
really, really long time), but if possible I would like to stay away from
leather as much as possible.
Does anyone have any recommendations for riding gear based on this
requirement?
Thanks.
Also, good luck to the new guy! I'm new in this group also.

There are two major products that come out of Berkeley: LSD and UNIX.
We don't believe this to be a coincidence.

I like leather boots and textile jackets and pants.

Do you have a recommendation on a brand of textile jackets?

Men are from earth. Women are from earth. Deal with it.

http://www.motoxoutlet.com/ isn't a bad outlet either. Moto GP or Joe
Rocket for textile jackets. If you're gonna go whole hog, Aerostich at
www.aerostich.com is the place. They're not cheap, but you do get your
money's worth over the next 10+ years of use. I just picked up a pair
of Sidi's outlet boots under the brand name of Setup from New Enough
myself. $69, but it pays to have small feet.
