I'm getting a new Goldwing and I'm kinda in a quandary as to whether the
ABS brakes system is worth the extra money.

Does it actually give one more control in the sandy corners and wet
streets over the normal ABS system?

Yes it does.  I have talked to a couple of motorcycle cops that have
Goldwings and they swear by ABS, not at it.

I've had other riders tell me the cost difference isn't worth it, but I
think differently. I can think of situations wherein ABS could save your
bacon, especially when after about 15-20 hours in the saddle and the
reflexes are kinda worn out for the day but home is still another hour
or two down the road.

I know one has to learn a different type of braking technique, but I
don't think that part is a big deal.

Any other opinions on this subject?

I won't buy a bike without it.  Cost difference, in my opnion, is a weak
argument against it.  Some people say they can do a better job than the
computer, others say they simply don't trust the computer.  If one trusts
the ABS, then the cost argument is BS.  What is one's hide worth these days?
Certainly more than the ABS price difference.

Yes, but it's a pretty easy technique.  Grab the brake and hold it.  No
pumping.  The computer does that for you.

I know that much from reading info about cars with it. For a guy who
has always practiced on the backroads coming down with rear *and* front,
it will take some getting used to letting the bike modulate that front
brake and keep it from locking instead of my having to do it.  That's
okay with me. I'm getting lazy, I guess. : )
