Hello!

I'm an inexperienced motorbike rider (age 21). However, I'm in love
with Honda Shadow VT750 C2.... :)) In fact I would like to buy myself
a motrbike but unfortunatelly I'm not sure whether the model mentioned
above will be appropriate for me.

Maybe do you have any experience with such motorbikes like Honda
Shadow (or Suzuki, Yamaha) and could give me some hints, which would
help me to choose the right one? :)) I really would be grateful!

I look for a bike which would cost approximately (no more than) 5.000
Euro and of course would be would be beautiful as well reliable -
hope that it will be more or less enough to give a great pleasure from
the ride!!

Hi Michal

The 750C Shadow is generally low on power for a 750. Don't get me wrong but
it's a great bike with good low end torque, just right for a cruiser. You
don't say if you have ridden bikes before. If not, then the VT125 Shadow is
probably more suitable and won't cost you an arm and a leg in insurrance.
It's a great entry level cruiser and doesn't look out of place against more
powerful cruisers. It will cruise all day at 60+ mph and great fun to ride.
You can't go wrong with Honda, best build of the japanese machines and
engines are bullet-proof :)

VT125? Isn't that available just in the UK and Europe?

I don't think they ever imported any of those into the USofA.

Certainly it's not among Honda's current offerings.

Hi!

In fact I live in Europe and I would like to buy a motorbike either in
Europe or import it from USA.

I found your post interesting, because I didn't take into
consideration cost of insurance. However, I'm a bit afraid that model
VT125 would be too 'small' in a longer period of time. I hope to keep
my motorbike for a couple of years and it seems to me very possible
that if I bought Shadow VT125, I would get bored with it too fast.
Personally I think it looks quite children's.... if I'm wrong, please
correct me!

I have already heard that Honda provides good quality engines in its
bikes and because of that fact as well as obvious beauty of the
motorbike I want to get one :))

Hmm and I have got one more question. Namely, is there any significant
difference in practice between bikes with Cardan shift or simply
'chain'?

Cheers, Michal

A shaft drive is lower maintenance than a chain drive and even a well
maintained chain drive bike will probably go through three or four
chains and sprockets in the time it takes for a shaft drive to wear out.

OTOH, a shaft drive is heavier and adds weight, especially unsprung
weight, which adversely affects both performance and handling.

As a practical matter, it makes no difference. The overall design of the
bike is more important than the drive system. I wouldn't choose or
reject a bike based on its drive system.
