Inspecting a US motorcycle to come into Canada - Question.

 

I am importing a motorcycle from the US. At  the Registrar of Imported
Vehicles website it shows Canadian Tire as the place to go to get the
inspection done.

The website also says that motorcycles should have a metric speedometer and
odometer labels (provided by inspection centre) - I am not sure of what
that means.

My question is will this just be a label ? or will I have to change the
whole speedometer/odometer?
I undertsand that the speedometer is labeled in both miles and kph - but I
assume the odometer is in miles only.

What needs to be done for this? Do I have to change the whole unit?

Many speedometers are marked in kph as well as mph, usually in letters
large enough to be read by an inspector but not large enough to be read
while actually riding the bike in traffic. If the odometer must also
read in kilometers, then I suspect the regulation is either written by
some know-nothing dufus or specifically designed to prevent imports of
American-market motorcycles.

That seems highly unlikely (but you never know) that's why I wanted to
check if anybody knew the answer to that - I will let you know in about a
month :)

I see what looks like two buttons below the dial of the speedo. I suppose one
is a trip button. Maybe the other one switches the odometer from English to
Metric?
