I thought the comment was garbage but was pulling on to an expressway
today on my V45 Sabre. Running a bit wide as not used to riding again
yet and I could hear these loud pipes as I passed him. Then I totally
lost him in my mirrors but I could hear him still. I could not find him
anywhere and then he passed me. His mirrors were so small I doubt once
passed me I was visible even though we were close at maybe 50 MPH. I
wanted to know where he was so we did not hit each other.
I was glad he had loud pipes but they sure did not make me feel at ease.
I HAVE to get my cornering skills back!

If your pipes were loud, would you still have heard him?
What if you were rockin to an Ipod?
I don't care how loud one's pipes are, I simply don't hear them when I'm
driving my car with the music playing, nor do I hear them when I'm driving
the bus at work.
On the other hand, if that guy wasn't riding like a complete idiot, he
wouldn't have to worry about how loud his pipes are. He could even, in an
uncontrollable fit of courtesy, get some pipes that don't piss everybody
off.
It's common knowledge that it's impossible to predict what other drivers are
going to do. This includes hearing and reacting to noisy exaust.

You should also do neck stretches, gently, before every ride. Develop
the strength and flexibility in your neck muscles so that you can turn
and look behind you.

Loud pipes only antagonise car drivers making their behaviour towards *ALL*
motorcyclists even worse than it was to start with!

Sorry, but this isn't true. I like to hear a bike when i'm driving the cage
so I know where he is.
I don't listen to loud music in the car anymore, that's for juviniles. I can
hear a bike with loud pipes and know immediately if he is passing me on the
left or right without seeing him/her.
I believe loud pipes really are a good thing for a motorcycle.
On the other hand, they shouldn't be so loud as to trigger a panic response
when they ride past and your walking down the sidewalk.. Those kinds of
pipes should be banned immediately.
