What can possible be wrong with a Moto Guzzi EV 1100 California ? The bike
is from the year 1997, but has been registrated for the first time in 2000.
It has only went 3000 km. The failure is intermittent. After about 30 km
with no problems, it suddenly behaved very odd. could only run about 40
km/hour, abd it seemed as it was only running on 1 cylinder. The danish
import dealer can not help. The bike is in Spain with spanish plates, and
the owner lives in Denmark. If you have som tips about the problem, please
help. He could have som spare parts with him the next time he goes to Spain.

Many regards from Thorkild M. C.

Does the engine have carburetors? With such low mileage over so many
years, carburetors will be plugged up by the evaporation of gasoline in
the float bowls. The idle jets and idle passages are tiny and gum and
varnish from the evaporated gasoline will stop the flow of fuel/air
mixture through those critical passages and orifices.

But you can buy commercial carburetor cleaners containing xylene,
acetone, and alcohols to clean the carburetors internally. In the USA
we can get a carburetor cleaner thatis called Berryman's B-12. STP and
Gunk also make similar cleaners.

Just drain down the float bowls using the drain screws and squirt a
50/50 mixture of carburetor cleaner and gasoline down the fuel hoses
into the float bowls and leave it sit for half an hour before starting
the engine. If it starts running on two cylinders and you think its
safe to go for a ride, put 3 or 4 ounces of the carburetor cleaner into
the gas tank and ride slowly so the engine has to suck the mixture
through the idle jets.

Fuel system cleaners that contain petroleum distillates are for fuel
injection systems. The petroleum distillate lubricates the fuel
injector's pintle valve, but doesn't clean gum and varnish out of
carburetors as well as the xylene/acetone/alcohol cleaners.

Thank you for your tips.

The bike doesn't have caburettors. There is electronic fuel injection.
Maybe
the failure could be the electronic !! The bike is bought as new. It have
been stored on stock for 3 years.

could be fuel starvation.
poor venting of the cap.
coil or condenser heating up.
spark plug bad.

this is not fuel injected, is it?
one injector may be intermittant.
the engine control unit may be bad (ECU)
good luck, sammm
