I have an 82 GL500 I
I have had it since 83, and it is in pretty good shape only 23K miles
It has started to leak oil around the shifer seal. So I replaced the seal
with a new one.
It still leaks a little
Any suggestions
Thanks

Give details on what method you used to replace this seal.
Done wrong, it makes things worse in the end, not better.

#7 oil seal

#13 shifter shaft
The shifter shaft seems to be too short to get bent in a crash. Maybe
there is a pattern of wear on the shaft where it sticks through the
oil seal.
Or maybe the shifter shaft rocks around in the holes in the rear cover
and the cylinder block.
That would distort the oil seals lips and cause leaking.
There doesn't seem to be any bearings for the shifter shaft, so it's
probably steel against aluminum.

Judging only by the schematic, it looks like the usual type of setup
where getting the seal in can be tricky unto itself.
If it's the way I'm thinking of, I would probably bevel the edge of the
hole slightly with a dremel, using moly grease to catch the shavings,
before lining up the seal. Just the slightest catch on a sharp edge can
be enough to wreck a seal.
Whenever I have to do one of these types, I always buy an extra, just in
case :)

If the shaft wiggles in the case, it's a worn case and can only be fixed by
replacement or welding and re-boring the hole.
