Hey y’all, so here’s the short and sweet version for this story.

I have managed to aquire a 1984 Kawasaki KZ550LTD from my aunts
estate, it’s been sitting idle for two and a half years and needs some
work done on it because it wasn’t stored properly.

Is it worth it to put the money into this bike? Because I honestly
know nothing about Kawasakis so I’m lookin for some advice.

Thanks!

Cat

I have a 1981 version of that bike - the real difference being that it has
shaft drive where mine has a chain.

Kawasaki 4 cylinder machines are very robust - good for about 80,000 miles
or so before anything really serious goes wrong.

If it has been stored properly then it may just need the fluids drained and
changed and a new battery.

If not and if there was gas in the bike you'll need to clean out the carbs.
Check the tank for rust too.

Another good resource for KZ bikes is http://www.kzrider.com

Join the forum, lot's of good help available.  Perhaps a bit more on
KZRider as that's its focus.  I'm a member of both boards and try to
answer what I can.

For parts you will find eBay to be a good resource as is Z1 Enterprises,
http://z1enterprises.com   It probably isn't worth it to put more than a
few hundred dollars into the bike to get it running if you just want to
sell it.  If it becomes your passion then who cares about money!  ;)
