The stator is inside the cover. Are you saying that there's a gap
between the cover and the bike (won't seat all the way?) Or there's a
gap where the stator seats in the cover? (that shouldn't be a problem
it should go right in)
Compare the old stator to the new one and see if the lamination stack
is the same thickness on both. This may be one of these recycled
"cores" from two different models that look the same but are slightly
different.

Ist of all your posting this to the wrong news group (SB-
rec.motorcycles.tech). That's the best place for all these old sub
2000 bikes to get real information.
I don't like to sound like a snob but I have been under the impression
for 8 years now that this group and some other MC groups are for "good
condition usable running bikes" that people actually ride and not for
some old clapped out 81 Honda that you're dreaming of saving some gas
money on. BTW, I sold my last garage queen, a 78 Suzuki GS-1000E about
a year ago to a local PHX salvage yard, running for $500.00. Too
little time and it's not fun playing the backyard mechanic anymore:)
PS. I also have an 84 RZ-350 that's been in the shop for months with
both lower end and top end piston problems. Money sink!

maybe they are looking for info, even from snobs.
it's good to know that you could help them.
it's nice if one can afford a proper running bike, not all people choose so
sensibly.
why don't you do up your own rz-350?
sam, also a snob, started bikes in the mid forties and been playing with the
since.

I'm crippled from a deer MC accident with just one leg and a bad heart
now but I still ride weekly,
BTW, I'm awful sorry for my negative post as I thought I was posting
to rec.motoecycles. Please except my apology, folks
