I am a new biker and just about to take my daughter as my first pillion
paasenger. I know I may have to adjust the suspension preload but should I
be compressing the springs for the extra weight or decompressing. Any
advice welcome thanks.

You will want to compress the spring. The idea is that the ride height
should remain the same as before.

Go up two from where you are if she is an average "full sized" adult.
One if she's under 80 lbs.

Two what?
Bob, You need to add more preload compensation when you daughter is
aboard, but the rebound damping can probably stay the same. You may also
want to add to the tire pressures.

Two "notches" on the pre-load, what else? May not have or know what
"rebound damping" is.....telling him to "add to the tire pressures"
without knowing what they're at is crazy!
Go have some coffe and report back..... ;^)
