I'm going to visit the USA for a holiday in a couple of weeks.
I'd like to see some riding gear (jacket, pants etc.) with a view to
buying some good gear for 3 (maybe 4) season touring back in the UK.
I will fly to Las Vegas and drive (past) Los Angeles and up to San
Fransisco. Can anyone suggest suitable shops to visit?
I am tempted by the mail order shops, but don't know if delivery to
hotels is reliable. Any opinions on that?
Thanks,
Steve

Might want to swing 2 hours south of LA to Escondido and check out Wayne's
stuff at Motoport (website is either motoport.com or cycleport.com). Nice
stuff and they will tailor it to you (if what they have off the rack doesn't
fit). Might be the biggest custom selection of riding wear in the state.
There is a popular custom leather gear shop in the San Fran. area. Can't
think of the name offhand. Small and family run.

Very risky, unless you stay for a long time. I've had promises of overnight
only to find out overnight to them is when their shipping boy gets around to
it (like in two days when he gets back!). Nothing beats staying in some
$140 a night place waiting for a package that takes three or four days to
get there (and then some of it shows up backordered or wrong). >:o( My
brother is in some high-tech service field for satellite communications and
he needs to get a lot of stuff shipped to hotels and motels while he's out
in the field. Sometimes he waits a long, long time for supposedly overnight
stuff. He really goes off when it's wrong and he has to sit in a motel for
a week.

I second the reccommendation. Good stuff, good people, good prices.

Yeah, there are quite a few leather shops in San Fran ;-)

Personally, I doubt if you can beat the Motoport Kevlar gear.
I got a few Cordura items and when they get near Velcro they start fraying
like crazy. The tighter weave of Kevlar prevents that problem and the suit
will last far longer.
