Hello,

I was just looking for peoples thoughts on a V-Star 1100 Silverado
(2007). Be honest, I want to know the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Also, besides shopping around the various dealers in the area and
comparing prices. Anyone know any other ways to get some cash knocked
off the price or outside promotions or what not.

Thanks,

TC

I've got a 06 Vstar 1100 silverado.

8900 miles in 10 months, all weather (for Texas Gulf Coast). Bought the
service plan which gives 6 or 7 service visits and extends the warranty
to 3 years.

Major gripes:
Stock seat is horrid for long distance
Needs a 6th gear or overdrive.

minor:
Fuel Economy: 40-42 mpg when keeping the speed under 60. Drops to as low
as 30 when on the freeway, doing 80 plus (and STILL being passed by cars
on the cross country trips)

Kudos:
Out of the dealership looks great, sounds fair. Aftermarket pipes are
available and affordable.

Lots of aftermarket mods avail

Rides good, and handles a load - I've had 450lbs on the saddles (2
riders, thank you) and still had a good ride and good performance.

Things I've done:
Installed Gel Pads for the saddles - do NOT recommend, about to buy a
mustang seat WITH driver's backrest

hardkrome double wall straight pipes - BIG difference, and people hear
me, but be easy on the throttle when coming home at night.

Removable ABS trunk - added the luggage rack and can add/remove this
thing in 5 mins. Adds lockable storage space and holds radio/gear/lights
for special events (I do stuff like that). I take it off and it looks
like a regular cruiser in 5 mins.

Can you send me links to the things you've added. Some of them sound
interesting especially for future use.

Also, do you know anyways to help improve the fuel economy especially on
the highway? After market mods, computers, etc.?

Hardkrome made the pipes. I bought them at the dealer. Im sure Google
can help.

The Gel Pad came from word of mouth from a mom and pop place. Which I
dont recommend anyways. Mustang seats are for sale on Ebay.

Drive the Speed Limit, or no faster than 60 mph. You will get EXCELLENT
mileage/economy. A hypercharger and pipes will at best get you 5% or 2-3
mpg. Not running wide open throttle will get you much more.

I have a Vstar 1100.  Cobra pipes and jetted, and K&N air filter.   I
live at over 5000 feet, ( Albuquerque).  I get 45 to 52 mpg with all
kinds of driving, city and freeway.  I've added an oil filter relocation
kit, because as they come stock, you have to drop the right footrest and
the front exhaust pipe to change the oil filter.  The salesmen don't
tell you that at the dealership.  The place that looks like the oil
filter is under it is purely cosmetic, no joke.  I've got about 10K
miles on it so far, and only had to replace the stock battery.  Got
about 4 years out of it.  Good, solid bikes.   Ed
