I saw a bike going down the road recently with something I had never
noticed before. It looked for all the world like a set of training wheels.
The side view looked like they had some sort of aerodynamic cover. A
distant view from the back showed something definitely sticking out past the
turn signal stalks. Some sort of parking aid maybe? Who makes such a
thing?

I saw a gizmo like that advertised for Gold Wings, to aid in parking
and also low-speed manouvering, like in a parking lot. They are sort
of like retractable landing gear, two small wheels that come down on
either side of the bike to hold it upright. I got the impression that
they go up and down automatically based on speed, but perhaps there's
a switch on the handlebars.
I thought it was a cool idea, but it reminded me why I don't ride a
Gold Wing.

Make me wonder why they just don't get a trike conversion and get it over
with...

Aww, that's no fun. 8^< What good is a bike you can't lean in turns?
Might as well be in a car.

That's why I don't "get" trikes either. Although, I did see a segment on
SpeedTV last winter about a trike conversion that uses a complex set of
links so the "bike" can lean and the rear wheels stay vertical. The
advantage of this system was lost on me. I figure they'd be as well off
with a Mini Cooper convertible--if such a thing exists.
