Yamaha starter issues

 

I know that Viragos all have issues with the starter making
ice-in-a-blender noises. I've got a service manual and have done
serious research on this. I recently acquired an '82  XV 750 and I'm
going to be removing the starter and hopefully putting in a rebuild
kit, providing I can find one. I can find them for newer bikes, but not
the '82. I'd appreciate suggestions on where I can get the  rebuild kit
(including gears, bushings, etc) I know I can buy a factory new starter
that has the problem already fixed, but that costs about $300. I can
get a new starter cheaper, and I've seen rebuild kits for other years
at about $40. Anyone have any ideas on where to get one for the '82?

 Can't help with the rebuild kit other than to say "internet search"
and "phonebook search" BTW while doing the latter, call the starter
re-builders in your area, they may be able to do it. I know there are
some around here that don't care what the starter came off of.
