I guess I'm suffering a middle age crisis but for the past year have
really wanted to buy a Z1R Turbo in decent shape.  Not a lot of them out
there and there doesn't seem to be much of a solid pricing envelope.
Maybe it's just worth what someone will pay for it. Any ideas?

thanks,
y

around better machine.

The Z1R-TC was plagued with cooling problems.  If you used full boost a lot,
an engine teardown was in your very near future.   One of my riding buddies
had the black one with the very 70s orange and yellow stripes that would have
made Marcia Brady swoon.

Pricewise, it's whatever the market will bear.   There were only 500 TCs
made over two years (78/79, IIRC).   In good condition, I've seen them
fetching better than $12K.

Good Luck,

John

thanks John. I agree that the gpz750 turbo is an all around more well
thought out machine, maybe because it was factory designed and built.
Not sure for the reasons that the GPZ 750 turbo lacks the appeal or
notariety of the Z1R Turbo. The way I see this one, it's the same kind
of comparison that might be drawn from given a choice between a B17
B17 Flying Fortress vs a B24 Liberator. The Liberator probably comes out
in front of the Fortress in just about any test you can imagine, but
you'd maybe still take the B17. . . .

I am considering a Z1R Turbo and coincidentally the price is about $12K.
It would never get beaten and heck, probably wouldn't even ride it much.
But like you suggested, what happens when there is 93 Octane gas in the
tank and the boost comes up?  There are also some  pretty nice naturally
aspirated Z1R's still kicking around. . .

thanks,
Y
