any ideas on cause/solution ?
my bikes begun backfiring at times when cruising downhill, and also
when I slow up to stop at traffic light or even slow down to 10-20 kph
to cruise round a tight corner - it wants to and will, cut out on me!
It's recently been repaired - had to have a new head, that was just 3
or 4 weeks back, it now runs "perfect"! idles fine, no problem on
cold mornings/night, best it's ever been!! prior to this it DID
have these other symptoms - but was always more noticable in the
Cold, and just today - it's begun doing this again for no obvious
reason,(it was cool but not exactly cold this morning) it backfired
twice on a single downhill run, and tried to cut out twice on slow
turn around a corner, then it did cut out at the next slow corner turn
- only cos I didn't pull in the clutch and hold the revs up a
little!! which up to today since new head, I'v never had to do,
thought all this was in the past!!
hoping of course this was a one time glitch, and it won't do this
again, but.... I'm thinking old gremlins are resurfacing again!!
obviously if I -or 'you' - don't come up with a solution - I'll be
booking it in for a check-up!!
thanks.

The idle jets and idle passages in your carburetor are getting plugged
up with gum and varnish.
If you just turn up the idle speed knob without cleaning out the carb,
you will have problems with the engine idling too fast when the
alcohol additives in fresh gasoline finally dissolve all the gum and
varnish.
Get to an auto parts store and buy a non-aerosol can of Berryman B12
Choke and Carburetor Cleaner and add about 4 ounces of the liquid to a
full tank of gas and let the B12 clean your carb while you ride.
If you can't find B12, you can use GumOut or STP aerosol carburetor
cleaner in the gasoline.

Yep!
Probably don't want the aerosol variety for mixing with the gas. ;-)
You might also want to re-evaluate your cornering technique.
Sounds like maybe you should be down a gear (or two) with the revs. up a
bit..........even after you get the problem fixed.
