I'm trying to help a friend out, who is thinking of a getting a gps for
her dad for Fathers Day - anybody used a gps designed for a bike
before? I've been doing some reading about it and that seems to point
towards a TomTom Rider as the way to go....

Look at Garmin GPSIII or similar. You can even get a "bicycle" mount
that works fine on motorcycle bars. Best of all, the GPSIII is
weatherproof.

Or what I use ... a Magellan Meridian. There's a RAM mount that fastens to
most clutch fluid resevoirs, and it uses SD cards that are readily available
to 2 GB for cheap (about $30). 1 GB ($23.99 at www.newegg.com) will hold
more than the entire US at toppgraphic resolution. The rest is available
for waypoints, etc. Uploading to the GPS takes a while at 4800 bps, but
only needs to be done once.

given the conditions a person is often biking in, i bet weather
resistant is pretty much a must have for this kind of system, right?
anyway - i've heard good things about the RIDER's sound quality - do
other systems work with a bluetooth earpiece like the RIDER does?
(and thanks again for the advice - it's good to get different options
and opinions!)
