Hi all,
I and a friend of mine  are planning to make a v2 from
scratch. Would like to know if any one has done this or modified a
single engine to a v2 ?
The reason for this upscaling is that since we are based in
India it would be more cost effective to make one here than import a
v2.
The bike that we are trying this for is the Royal Enfield
Thunderbird. Please let me know if some one has done something
similar .

Thanks and Regards

Designing a new engine and developing all the tooling is too much
work, especially if it's going to be a low-tech engine to run on low
octane gasoline.

Find an established manufacturer that's going broke and buy the rights
and all the tooling to make to their low tech V-twin.

Maybe the manufacturer you want is somewhere in the former Soviet
Union or China.

You might find something like a flat head V-twin that would run on low
octane gasoline.

Chinese manufacturers were building a flathead version of a BMW
opposed twin and several versions of pre-WW2 German 2-strokes when I
visited Beijing years ago.

That would be just fine if you have the rights to build the engine and
don't have to pay royalties to the other company. You would save money
on the cost of labor.

A lot of the small 2-strokes engines that were made in Japan in the
1960's were built using the designs of German manufactures like DKW
that were trapped in the Soviet occupied zone.

The Japanese bought the rights to make the engines and prospered. As
their business grew, they were able to modernize but their labor costs
grew and now spinoffs of their best efforts are being build in South
Korea or China.

Sure, a couple guys with the last names of Harley and Davidson did the very
same thing a few years back. It seems it was a good idea as the general
concept is still in production!

The Third Reich might have beaten you to it and patented the idea. Be afraid

For one, it would help if you would indicate what a "v2" is.  I did a
web search and came across a special, rural type moped:

The Royal Enfield Thunderbird motorcycle seems such a lovely, economical
ride for the types of roads in India, one would wonder why you would
want to modify it.  Is it to increase its load bearing capabilities?
