Hi.. I I have been riding for 2 years ..only 600 miles on a 1985
Suzuki 450..This year I am going to buy a new bike. I am a 5ft 4 inch
, 115 lb female and want a bilke that is light..that I can handle
.and that I can feel comfortable on..to put on lots of miles this
season and gain experience and confidence..I am still a little acared
going over 55 mph.... Any thoughts. I was thinking of the Virago 250
or the Suzuki S 40..both light, and I feel good sitting on
them..although the S40 is a lot "bigger"’.
any advice would be appreciated..I did take the course.
Thanks so much,
Diane

Honda rebel 450
Suzuki savage
Honda Nitehawk(nice bike)
Kawasaki ninja..250 or 500
Triumph Bonneville, new one of course!(really nice bike)
Yamaha Virago
I'd check out the Triumph....Shouldn't be tough to ride, with the
potential of keeping you happy for a long time, and a classy bike!
Decent power, easy to handle, modern, great looks,Not sure about seat
height though.

Diane,
You said that you're looking for a bike "to put on lots of
miles this season and gain experience and confidence". Are you
looking for another interim bike, or a long-term "keeper"? Have you
outgrown the Suzuki? Knowing what the Suzuki is no longer providing
for you will help in choosing your next bike.
Beardg made some excellent suggestions in his reply. The only thing I
would add is that if you're looking for another interim bike while you
gain confidence, and not a long-term bike, I'd suggest staying with
one of the Japanese models, preferably used.
The nice thing about the Japanese bikes is that they tend to hit the
bottom of their depreciation curve fairly soon, and then the prices
stay steady. If you buy a 10-15 year old Japanese standard or
cruiser, you'll probably be able to ride it for as long as you'd like
and then turn around and sell it for what it cost you. It's almost
like riding for free.
Of course, when it comes time to buy a bike "for keeps", get whichever
one you love. Don't stress on price too much. Better to overpay a
little bit than to buy one bike and spend the next few years secretly
wishing you had bought the other one.

I like the suggestion of a Triumph Bonneville, if you want a new bike.
Great price! The seat is nice and low, it is easy to handle and you might
never outgrow it. Check it out on the Triumph website. The Suzuki single
would fit you well, also. I wouldn't be afraid of the size, you will get
used to it in no time.
