I guess I'm headed toward a transmission repair. I've been missing 2nd gear
more and more frequently lately. It appears to be going into second but when
I let out the clutch it's in neutral. I get the usual familiar clunk and
feedback from the shifter pedal but the damned thing seems to pop back out
of gear. This morning it took 4 shifts to get it into 2nd after exiting the
tollway and getting through the toll booth. I was afraid I was going to be
broke down just a 1/4 mile from work. Does this sound like a pricey repair?

My 88 FLSTC does that too, but only when I'm really twisting the wick. I've
learned to live with it, I just ride the bagger instead.

Today I intentionally went easier into second because it usually occurs when
I am in a hurry. Today I didn't miss a shift at all. The other common thread
besides too much wich may have been too little clutch. I also consciously
engaged and disengaged the clutch very deliberately and so I don't know if
either or both contributed to the better shifts but like you I will live
with it until I have to skip second and go first to third.

Sorry I forgot to offer a drink on my tab but you were probably on duty and
wouldn't have accepted anyway. <bseg>

Try me. If I couldn't drink at work, I'd never go back. Vodka is your/my
friend.
