Dropped my 02 FXDX off at Republic HD Thursday night after work hoping they
could get the 50000 mile service done before I needed it for work Monday. I
asked them to check on the cam chain tensioners since they were original and
hadn't been looked at yet. They called me Friday early and said they
couldn't believe the miles they had on them. They were still looking very
good and I should'nt need to look at them again before 60000 miles. I was
one happy camper and was able to pick the bike up Friday afternoon. The only
complaint I have is they didn't put the shifter lever back in the right spot
so I had to yank it to upshift and they didn't finish the wash job. The
tank, fenders, controls, guages and so on looked pretty good but the frame
looked like they ran out of water half way down. Oh well, they'll get
another shot at it in 2500 miles.

That's about the rate I change my oil at too. I use Mobil 1 15w-50
synthetic.
Maybe it's over-doing it, but I think changing your oil and filter at
that frequency is the Number 1 best thing you can do for you engine's
longevity.

You can just trade it in every 5000 miles, the new ones come with fresh oil.
Look at all the money you can save on oil changes.

No argument from me on that. It has worked well for me so far. I think they
use their own brand of synthetic. I don't ask, they don't tell.
