I did a 600 mile round trip yesterday. 6 hours to get there with 3 stops
then the same on the way home. One for a gas stop around half way and two to
rest my tail bone. The problem is my seat, it has no tail bone support at
all!!! I remember when riding 150 miles was no issue, now after 90, OUCH!!!
My question, how many other's have had this problem and gotten a Mustang
Seat and found it to be the cure? When my wife rides with me I get tail bone
relief, I can rest up to her, she was not with me.
On the bright side at a steady 65 I checked my mileage at my 3 gas ups, I
haven't gassed up at home yet so I'm not sure what I got, it could be worse.
I got 48.89 the first time, 50.28 the second and 51.89 the 3rd. The 3rd time
my bike was facing down an incline a bit at the station so I'm sure I hadn't
gotten all the gas in it I could. Not thinking I got all the way full I may
be around 48 when I fill back up. We rode respectfully instead of being
aggressive, other wise I usually see 45 ish.
Regardless of the pain in my ass LOL, it was a great ride.

For those of us with poor memories, what kind of bike are you riding?

I didn't think the type of bike would matter, but I suppose the seats design
would be different wouldn't it. 1999 Fat Boy.

I see from subsequent email you're riding a '99 fatboy. If it feels
ok with someone on the back, it's possible that all you really need is
some lower back support that prevents your spine from curving and
tilting your tailbone into the seat. Have you considered a backrest
rather than a new seat? At worst you could probably reuse the HD
backrest with a Mustang seat should you go that direction, but I'd try
a backrest first.
My back is a bit screwed up partly by age and partly by bad decisions
in my youth. I also noticed that lower back feels better with someone
on the passenger seat. ('03 flhtcui) I really think it's because this
forces me into better posture. I have the HD backrest on my "wish
list" on Amazon.

Read my ride reports (and see the picture next door)
Yup yup yup.. the stock H-D seat reportedly has issues, but that BACK
REST that is so easily installed on '03 FLHTCI like I had, really is a
great investment!
Mounting the bike is not as graceful as it used to be, when it's fully
packed, however.
