I have a friend who is offering to sell me a Harley-Davidson Sprint,
one of the 350 cc varieties, for a $1000. Im not sure of the model,
but he says the milage is low and its in good shape despite the need
for a new kick start.
Im wondering about the 1. mechanical reliability 2. the ease and cost
of repairs and replacements (especially the kick starter) 3. the
overall value of these bikes 4. How well these bikes perform depite
their size 5. and any other useful information.

My first bike back in 1969 was a 1964 250 Sprint.
I never regretted giving that one up.
These sites might help you out.

My first bike was a '66 350. When it was running, it handled great and
was a great bike for the struggling collitch stoodent that I was. It
not only taught me a lot about handling, but even more about how to
rebuild an engine while working the midnight shift at a truckstop. And
how to rewire a bike. And how utterly unreliable Italian electrics were
at the time.
I'd kind of like to have on for purely sentimental reasons, but I'd
never want to rely on one for any sort of actual riding.

nostalgia isn't quite what it used to be....
