Have a drink on me, 'cause I just finished up a Web page of the trip
we made to Vancouver Island, this past summer. You can relive it with
us at:

Have a Merry Christmas while you're at it.

Thanks for the take-along. Beautiful scenery up there. Great
photography. I always look forward to reading/seeing your ride reports.
My wife took her first over-nighter on the bike with me last September.
She really had fun and looks forward to more trips. My next step is to
get her to take the riding course and get her on her own bike, like you
two do. Your pictures and reports might be just the incentive she needs.
Merry Christmas to you, too.

Careful how you go about this idea.
Debbie now has 13 screws a plate and a bolt attaching the plate to her
hip ball in her right leg.
She refused to make time for training on a quad and dirt bike and paid
the price (along with me). I asked her to work on the quad to become
comfortable with the controls while not having to worry about balance, I
told then she should spend some time on a dirt bike to bring it all
together. She never made time or tried when I offered, and went to the
MSF course cold.
She was grabbing the throttle with her wrist high like she saw Angel do
on her drag bike. The first time she made a tight left turn she lost
control of the engine speed and panicked and dumped the bike and broke
her femur. I attribute this to the high student to instructor ratio at
the course instead of the one on one she would have gotten from me and
her lack of confidence on the controls prior to taking the course.
Please don't make this same mistake with yours. Needless to say anything
about the recovery time (or watching them screw a traction rod into her
leg), it has completely screwed my chances of ever getting her on her
own bike and I am stuck with her on the back of mine (which was at first
fun, but has lost its magic).

There is that possibility. The local MSF course has a female instructor
who is a friend of ours. She periodically gives female-only courses,
which have inherently smaller class sizes. In fact, our friend has
offered to give her some private pre-MSF course lessons so she'd feel
more comfortable on the bike. If we go that route I'd find a metric
throw-away bike for her to practice on before I'd let her out on the roads.
The odds of Lois ever riding are slim, but years ago I said she'd never
enjoy long trips on the bike, either.
But yer right...there's a lot of things going on all at once when riding
a bike. Every hand and foot has something different to do. It takes a
while to be able to do it automatically.

Might I also suggest Red's tale of her solo bike trip, as well as
anything Amanda has every written up. I was completely unable to resist
the lure.
Rosie, ya read one little newsgroup...
