Brit breaks 250 production motorcycle record

British Kawasaki KR-1S owner Mark Jordan defeated the 250cc production
record yesterday (Monday August 13, 2007) on the Bonneville Salt Flats
in America.
The 250cc production record requires the motorcycles to appear
standard – but some internal work is allowed on the engines.
Exhausts must be standard. Mark Jordan’s Kawasaki KR-1S received basic
tuning work to optimise flow in the casings before being shipped out
to the Bonneville Salt Flats last week.
Speaking exclusively with MCN, Mark Jordan said: “I did 132 and a bit
to qualify, and a 133.8 terminal on the first day.
“I was up at 3am to get there for a 6am start, and did my second run
at just after 7am, and got 135.8 over the mile, and 136mph at the mile
and a quarter - so still accelerating, but I was over revving so I
need to change the gearing.
"The average of the two 1 mile times is about 134 mph, about five over
the existing record. We’re going to try a faster engine over the next
few days to see if we can get to 140.”
