This old MasterCard is scratched and worn, but if the bartender will
accept it, help yourself to the beverage of your choice. Chilled
Patron Silver and a Corona for me, I think.
I'm heading out to California on business next week, and I'm flying
out early Saturday morning so I can enjoy a weekend off before I put
my nose to the grindstone. I'll be in Woodland Hills, and I googled
up Antelope Valley HD as the nearest "authorized" HD rental place.
Looking to pick the bike up mid-afternoon Saturday and return it 24
hours later.
So, do any locals (or anyone else) have a nice ride route
recommendation for a ride commencing in Lancaster CA, in the
afternoon, spending the night in Woodland Hills, and returning to
Lancaster the next afternoon?
I can just Google map it, but local knowledge or previous experience
is always good.
I ride a Street Glide and will be trying to rent one so I can see how
the new models compare to my 2006. Long rides are no problem, but I
do want to have time to stop and take a few photos.
Thanks for any recommendations!
Tim
P.S. Sheesh that was long-winded; have another one on my tab....

Leave Lancaster on the Angeles Forest Highway, take it to the Angeles
Crest Highway, ride east to the end, turn around and ride it to the west
end, take freeway to Woodland Hills.
Sunday, ride the Malibu Canyons, pose at the Rock Store, say Hi to Jay
Leno there, then ride to south on the Pacific Coast Highway to Santa
Monica, turn around and go back up the PCH to Ventura, take Highway 33 to
Lockwood Valley road, take that to I5, south on I5 to rt. 138 into
Lancaster.
I don't guarantee any of those roads to be open, but they all are great
roads to ride on. Maybe some of the folks in SoCal can chime in.

May cost you big time, those 2009s are sweet.
Have fun, be prepared for cooler weather in the mountains, and fog and
chill along the coast.

Thanks, I had heard of, and then forgotten about, EagleRider rentals.
Apparently, they are not the same as Harley's corporate approved
rental dealerships; I just went through their website. Will have to
check out the EagleRiders alternatives.
Tim
P.S. The "validation" characters that Google Groups is requesting me
to type in for this posting is "roads." Kind of appropriate!

Bartels in Marina del Ray has a rental outfit as well:

Around Woodland Hills is some prime ridin' once you get out of town. Topanga
Canyon west to PCH is a must, as George said, Mulholland Dr. out past the
Rock Store (don't bother stopping), the PCH north towards Ventura and Santa
Barbara, Rt 33 towards Ojai and almost any road that has "canyon" in it's
name. If you find yourself wandering through Malibu find a convenience store
and wander around. Just never know who you'll see there.
Bonus with Rt 66 over Harley rentals is they provide everything.. helmets,
leather, gloves, raingear... the works. You don't have to pack a bunch of
crap for the
TSA goons to snoop through. Dunno how many new bikes they have for rent... I
always got a used one.
