Ok folks, it's happy hour and I'm buying.
Earlier this year after I purchased the FLHTC, I started looking for a
cruise control. I put together some parts from the dealer because there is
not a kit for bikes older that '02 or so I am told. The bike is also a carb
version with the speedometer takeoff from the front wheel. The collection
of parts totaled around $570 so I decided to wait.
I just received my copy of MCN and it list a number of accessories for the
FJR1300, one of which is an AudioVox CCS-100 Cruise Control for $89.95
(..and it is not made for motorcycles according to the article). This is a
servo motor type cruise control, "...a device that will maintain a constant
speed regardless of the terrain" and not a throttle lock as described by the
MCN writer. My question: is anyone familiar with this unit and will it fit
(work on) a 1998 carb version FLHTC? Again, according to the article, it
worked very well on the FJR1300.
Any information will greatly be appreciated and with that, happy hour is
extended (I am anticipating saving some money with this unit. I am forever
the eternal optimist!!)

My '92 FLHTCU came with the factory CC and IIRC it was a front wheel
speedo. Find yourself a motorcycle salvage yard or better still check
out ebay.
Thanks for the beer.

Does your bike have EFI or carb? I have seen a couple of '97's that have
the front wheel speedometer but they both had EFI. My carb does have the
"tang" to mount the servo cable.

I no longer have that bike, but in '92 HD wasn't doing fuelies

Yep the "tang" is there for the hook-up and ya _might_ even find that
your wiring harness has the plug for the servo. I know that with the
newer bikes (like my former '02) it's easier and more cost effective
to have a "one fits all" that to have a harness for each individually
option equipped bike.

I see no reason that, properly installed, it wouldn't work, as long as
there is enough room to install the throttle connection without causing
binding or ortherwise interfere with the normal throttle operation.
See <http://www.fjr1300.info/howto/audiovox.html> for a how-to on
installing the unit in an FJR. You'll have to adapt that to the Harley.
If I were doing it, I'd figure on screwing up the first unit and having
to buy a second.
If I were a mechanic, I doubt I would install this on someone else's bike
due to the liability issue.
YMMV.
