Yuengling Traditional Lager is the current beverage, but anything else that
Shirley can splash you can have, on me.  Aaaand, I have pair of questions
about my '75 FLH, if I may trouble you for a second.

Short version:  What is the RPM that a 74 inch Shovel is happiest at?  Where
is it unhappiest at?

Long version:  I'm riding into Jersey today and I'm keeping up with traffic
on Rt. 1, pretty steady diet of 65 to 75 MPH.  I don't have a tach but my
ear seems to think that the motor was hovering in the 3000 +/- 500 RPM
range.  Maybe someday I'll count the teeth and pin it down, but tonight it
ain't happening.

This led me to wonder what RPM the Shovel wants to run?  My old Brit bikes
have a bad spot around 3200 RPM.  Don't run them there for long is the
answer, blow though it but don't linger there.  My Chevy v8s seem to peak in
efficiency in the mid 2000 range, that's where it converts gasoline into
go-power most effieciently.

What is the most efficient RPM?  More importantly, is there a "No-no" RPM
for Shovels?

I poked on the 'net and haven't found anything that answers my
questions...oh, here, this is the pitcher of Yuengling I was talking
about....

Don't be too quick to apologize. My remark was actually a friendly
dig at you for living so close to a bunch of us, and we've never

Or maybe you have and I missed it? Was it after midnight?

I've actually been thinking about that.  Who knows, this might be the
season.  I'm pretty out of touch, but during the 80s and 90s B.C. (Before
Children) I ended up at some swap meets somewhat regularly.  Last year I was
at Carlisle, but that's all I managed.  I don't even know when Harmony is
anymore though, or Triumph Come Home.  Or if they even happen anymore.
There was another antique bike meet I went to, something like Perkiomen or
something.  And there's a hill climb I've gone to a couple times,
Fredericksburg or something?  Freemansburg mebbe?  Any of those meets on
your list?  If it's an event like that I'm much, much more likely to
actually get it together and show up, other than that I manage to ride when
a break in the day-job and parenting-action crops up, so I never really know
when it'll be.

What gatherings (if any) draw your crew out?
