This subject came up on a couple of other lists this morning, perhaps it
could be of use to someone here. I have no connection to Gerbing other
than using their products, and I wrote this based on my own experiences.

Go here:
http://www.gerbing.com/Products/Liners/heatedJacketLiner.html  and it'll
tell you how to measure. Also, no taxes and shipping wasn't bad.

In talking to a salesperson at a A&S BMW in Sacramento, she mentioned
that Gerbing will be doing away with the multiple sizing options and
going to a straight S/M/L/XL sizing. I don't have confirmation of that,
but Snarl may be able to get some information on that if you buy him a
couple o' Coors. I prefer the individualized sizing obviously.

Their heated products come with a simple on/off switch which is totally
unsuitable because these things get HOT and you'd always be turning it
on/off. You have to get the thermostat. They're shown here:
http://www.gerbing.com/Products/tempControls.html

The portable temp controller is okay, but you've got to try to hook it
to your belt or keep it in your pocket, and the cables become a PITA. I
dealt with it on both my Heritage and Ultra so I know. You'd need the
holster for it. For the same combined price you can get the permanent
controller and mount it somewhere on your bike. I have the jack mounted
on my gas tank panel so it's just a simple 12" extension cable to plug
into it and there's no wires dangling anywhere. You can mount the
rheostat anywhere you want, I have mine mounted on a side cover just
because it was easy to do. If I had felt like taking the fairing off I
would have mounted it in there. There is enough cabling on that
permanent unit so you can really play with different location ideas.

And if you get the jacket liner, get the gloves also. Plug right into
the sleeves.

The new jacket liners come with a "dual 2" wiring configuration, which
means that you can either run a separate thermostat for the gloves and
liner, or use a pigtail splitter (8 bucks) that lets you use one
controller for both the gloves and liner. That's what I do, and one
controller provides more than enough juice to run both and there's
really no temp disparity where I felt the need for separate controllers.

For future reference, call their customer service number, ask for
Tina, and tell her Snarl sent ya.  She's a good friend (Browneye's Ol'
Lady too) and lives about a mile from us.  She knows *everything*
about Gerbing and will help ya's with any questions.

About that sizing change; yup it's true.  Reason for th' change is to
help stupid people.  Seems they get a shitload of stuff back because
th' dumbasses can't figger it out.  They're s'posed to put a cross
reference chart on th' web site to ease th' transition, and it's not
just a S/M/L/etc.  You'll see it in a couple of weeks.

Another change inna works for Gerbing is they're moving from Union, WA
to larger digs in Olympia, WA.  That starts next Wed. for everything
except customer service, which'll move about 3 weeks later.  Obviously
things may be a little hectic for a spell 'til everyone gets settled
in.

Snarl... lucky friend of th' cute lil' Gerbing lady

Heh, yeah.  Tina's a sweetheart.

She hasn't hit menopause yet <g>.  Dunno if Gerbing has one for that,
but if they make one I'd buy it at any cost.

Snarl... six years of that n' countin'

they have good stuff and good customer care, they took both of our
extreme all season jackets back with no problem cause they leaked like
a faucet left open.

Too bad they are doing away with the custom fit stuff, because IMO
that is the only way the stuff works to its fullest capacity.
Now I hope I never need a new jacket liner or pants, but I would pay
extra for custom fit, maybe they will keep that option open, exporting
your product overseas brings your profits up for sure, but causes shit
like this. sad....  and there is still warm and safe made here in the
U.S.
