I just got a call from Grizz, he's on the side of the road somewhere in
Nevada.

Oddly enough his bike is fine, he stopped for another rider that seems to be
broken down.  Guys on a '93 Softtail and the start motor is turning over but
the bike's not starting up, or getting spark.  They don't have a manual
handy and were looking for the fuse box.  I wasn't much help, never had a
softtail so I have no idea where the fuse box might be, and surprisingly
enough, a quick google search didn't give a definitive answer, so I told him
to look under the seat.  He said the starter motor is spinning really fast,
as if there is no compression.  I didn't think of it while on the phone but
it could be that it simply isn't engaging the motor.  I tried calling him
back but couldn't get through so I sent him a text message basically just
telling him to pull a plug and hit the starter and see if he can feel the
air from the piston moving.  None of this helps with determining how he got
on the side of the road in the first place, stopped for a piss, bike died
while moving, I don't know.

I don't know if they'll get far on the side of the road with limited tools,
and I was pretty much useless, but at least Grizz was willing to stop and
try to help, he's funny like that.  Said that the ride through the Sierra
something or other was cold as hell, and I think he said he did it at night,
or at least took that route because he was advised not to go through
Yosimite at night.  I could have that completely wrong, but he said there
were still snow drifts.

If it just won't isn't engaging it's probably the starter
clutch.  They can push start it.  If it's more involved than that I'd
suggest the tool kit he's already shown he has with him (cell phone).
That should get a tow truck on the way.  If that fails & he wants to
be a real hero ask him if he knows how to "straight leg" a guy to
civilization.

I'd want pictures of that.

Hopefully they're not too far from civilization, and hopefully his good deed
will go unpunished.

In any event, he appears to be well on his way back east.

They ended up towing to a bar/gas stop about 5 miles back. Had a 2
hour wait for a $600 tow, and didnt' want to try anything. I gassed
up, ( had missed the lone gas pump when I passed it) and continued on
my way. Stopped in Colorado for some info, and am headed toward
Denver. I'll probably stop just before Kentucky, and figure something
out, with the rain and all to the East.
