Barkeep a round of whatever people want and lets have some natchos and
wings to keep the wolf from the door.
Me and Mrs Aitch are coming over later in the summer, that much we're pretty
sure about. We *might* buy ourselves a new scoot and keep it in PA. What
we aren't so sure about is what charges get slapped on the figure quoted on
the MoCo's website i.e. Road Glide $18599, Road King $16999. Back here we
get screwed with a 17.5% sales tax. Then there is an annual tax for the
bike. A one off charge for the licence plate, delivery, pre-delivery
inspection etc. etc. etc.
If we were to buy, it would likely be from our 'local' dealer in PA. Can
anyone enlighten us as to what all the extra charges might come to and what
they are for?
More beers for all
Cheers

Delivery/freight is $375 whether you buy it in CA or take delivery at the
dealer in York right across the street from the factory.
Pre Delivery Inspection/Setup varies by dealer, I've seen from $300 - $600.
Pennsylvania Sales Tax is 6%.
PA registration fees for a motorcycle are $18/year
Title issuance is $22.50
There's something listed called an Out of State Driver's License... dunno if
that's applicable, various fees.
http://www.dmv.state.pa.us/fees/index.shtml
Progressive insures both of my scoots for under $600/year. For just the
barge it's around $400.
All the dealers around me are waiving setup and delivery fees and throwing
in a free 1k service and a 10 - 20% discount on accessories sold at time of
purchase. I would settle for nothing less. If Z&M in Greensburg doesn't want
to deal there's a ton of dealers within 50 miles or so. Zanotti's in Butler
offers at least 20% off on mail order parts and accessories, I'm sure they
deal on bikes as well. You want me to do some calling around?
Sorry we missed your calls yesterday. Message on my cell was totally garbled
and I had to translate the home message for Sue. Once ya hear "Aitch" and
your ears go into Brit-mode it's easy Youse guys talk funny. <g>

Thanks TL for the heads up on the various extras. I don't think that I'll
need to worry about the out of state licence but I'll double check. I
haven't heard about waiving setup and delivery, but I have heard about 20%
off accessories and no charge for the 1K service. *If* we do buy I'll be
keeping it in Greensburg/Latrobe area and will want my local dealer to take
care of it as far as servicing goes. I think I'll hold off doing the
calling around for the time being.

Ha, ha, ha, you are funny. I can write a bit of Pittsburghese: yins,
stillers, er, needs washed, er.... that's it. I could probably do with an
English English - American English phrase book for when I attract the
attentions of the local law enforcement folk.
Not to worry about missing the call, I can always "taunt you a second time",
I think that was the line.
Cheers

Already done. Z&M looks to be the best of the PA bunch. Most of 'em are
telling me freight is non-negotiable and setups range 300 - $500! At least
Z&M sez it might be negotiable depending on what bike you want and how
business is when you're ready to buy. Their setup charge is the lowest I
talked to.... $209. Title, registration, plate and the rest of the paperwork
is a flat $102.50. Some of the shysters want 150 - $170 for the same thing.
Z&M will also give you 10% off accessories bought at the time of sale, said
they might be negotiable on that too. From the sounds of it competition
isn't hittin' PA like it has Ohio. Either that or they like have a floor
full of bikes.
Dealer I bought from is small and you deal with the owner. I had free setup,
delivery and a free 1k service almost before I said hello. Sue got all that
and bought hers for $500 below MSRP.

Aitch, call me when you're ready.
Legends H-D in Ledgewood, NJ will deal with you.
They gave me 750 MSRP off my '08 right up front,
20% discount on parts/accessories, next day 1K service free.
I did pay 275 setup and 345 freight.
That was before the bottom dropped out in July '07, delivery of Oct
'07...
probably willing to deal even more now.
