School me in Harley fuel injection.  After 40 years of Harley carbs my
new ride is a fulie (2007 FXD).

I understand the basics of the system, but am interested in any mods
and programming that you folks may have tried or are planning in the
future.  Power Commanders, FuelPac's, HD reflash, dyno-tune, O2
sensors, etc.

Last night I found that my new bike has a SE breather under the stock
cover.  The new baffles I installed in the SE II mufflers did just
what they advertised by lowering the sound freq. and providing an
improvement in low speed operation.  I'm still experiencing some
slight popping on decel, but when I ran it through the gears the other
day it slams my eyeballs to the back of my head pretty impressively.
My problem right now is that, with a used bike, I have no idea what
has been done in the past, if what I have is acceptable or can be
improved upon.

I am considering just dropping the coin for a full dyno-tune to
develop a baseline.

Probably oughta determine what ECM program you're dealing with first. If
it's been altered from OEM a dealer ought to be able to look up the bike's
records, all the ECM Stage downloads come online via HDnet to the dealer, no
more cartridge downloads. Easy way to tell if something's been flashed is
bump the rev limiter and see where it is. 5200, still stock. 6200, some kind
of ECM download. Won't tell you which one though. Dealer can plug it in to
the DTII and tell you exactly what's been done or whether the program has
been altered with a Race Tuner.

The '07 & up Stage I flashes are less dramatic than previous. They used to
alter a/f ratio and timing. Now the only thing they do is raise the rev
limiter. The '07 & up ECMs feature Adaptive Learning. If you make minor
changes to exhaust or breather the adaptive fuel values can be reset and
it'll start adjusting all over again. Course, only way to do that is pay a
dealer to plug in the DTII.

Seems like everyone recommends whatever they're running as the way to go.
I've had PCIIs, IIIs, reflashes, ThunderMax ECM. If you like tweaking maps
and trying new stuff the ThunderMax is the ticket. Infinitely adjustable.
Steep learning curve. Power Commanders require plugging the O2 bungs and
going back to open loop, a step backwards IMO.

I gave my Power Commander to Red Beard and went back to stock. He
probably has also by now.

I installed the V&H FuelPak about 60K miles ago on my '07 when I
installed the ProPipe and Stage I breather. Pipes used the stock 02
sensors. Plugged it in, put in the numbers provided by V&H and was done.
Only thing was that I knew what I had already done to the bike. Numbers
would have been different if I had already had an ECM flash or any other
work.

I'd perhaps heed TL's advice, get thee to a dealer to see if you can
find out what's already been done.

Fuck!  I've brought a bike to the dealer three times in the last forty
years.

I don't have to have a "relationship" with my dealer nowadays, do I?
