Like a lot of folks in the U.S.A., I have a job. I work, they pay me.
I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit.
In order to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine
test with which I have no problem.
What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to
people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass
a urine test to get a welfare check, because I have to pass one to
earn it for them?
Understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their
feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone
sitting on their ASS, doing drugs, while I work. . . .
Can you imagine how much money the states would save if people had to
pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?

Hey, I'll oblige. I've got a dillemna for which I've yet to come up with a
solution.
Help yourself to a beverage. Just thinking out loud here if'n anyone is
bored and looking for something to read.
I'm pretty confident in my '93 FXR's comfort factor to make a gas and bio
break only trip 400 miles in any direction outta the Boston area this year,
but there are few remaining items I need/want to get before any such
venture. First of course is rain gear and leathers, or other suitable
road-rash protection in case it's my turn to kiss the pavement at speed.
Second is the Harley discussion part of this post. I am anxious over a
replacement exhaust system. There's not really a lot of information on older
bike exhausts on the web, and I haven't been around long enough to know what
people have used in the past, and how they compare. Not to mention the
limited availability of FXR Evo exhausts (almost seems like there are more
Shovel exhausts available...).
I have come to the understanding that in all likelihood, the '91-'95 Dyna
exhausts will work on an Evo FXR, so that opened up a few more options.
I'm 90% sure I want a 2 into 1 system.
I'm 98% sure that I want it to be more quiet than the CS M-Pipes I'm running
now.
Problem is, I don't have any direct experience with, or online resources for
determining if, "A" is more quiet than "B". I'm not looking for stock 80dB
quiet, but probably something in the 90 or less category. I'm guessing the
M-Pipes are in the low to mid 90dB's. I'd like to be able to carry on a
conversation with a fellow rider, when the bike is idling, and that's
difficult with ear plugs ;-).
I'm beginning to think I'm clearly not a "typical" Harley owner, since I'm
looking for (and not finding) online discussions, forums, or retail websites
where sound level is documented during performance comparison testing
between pipes.
Seems to me this is pretty basic shit to include in testing. You Dyno test a
set of pipes on a stock 80", 88", or whatever motor, mount and aim an SPL
meter at the bike from say 25 feet away, and run your Dyno test. Document
the SPL along with the power output.
To bring this to a head, working blind on the web and without knowing the dB
ratings of the various pipes out there, I have basically whittled the list
down to:
1) I don't care how loud they are, I need a cheap set of pipes because mine
look like shit and money is tight, so I'll just buy the $89 Kraft Tech
Tapered dual staggers and pay the $27 shipping.

2) I don't know how loud it is, and I don't think there's a "quiet" baffle
available, but I like the look and everyone swears by them. I'll get a
Thunderheader for around $550 (or less) from some place that has free
shipping.
3) I don't know how loud it is normally and I don't know how quiet it will
be afterwards, but I'll spend about the same as a TH on a '91-'95 Dyna Vance
and Hynes HS Pro Pipe, and install a quiet baffle from Smartpartz
http://www.smartpartz.com/SPZVHPRO-H1.html
4) Run my ratty looking M pipes, and wear earplugs until I get to some IRLs,
rides, or rallies where I can get an opportunity to experience the options
first hand.
