I am far enough inland (Virginia) I would be surprised if we even got
any showers or rain. Looks like the Outer Banks is going to get hit big
time and probably Virginia Beach.

I second that statement.
At least with a hurricane you get some warning. Your place will still
get hammered, but at least you can make some preparations for it. I'll
take a tornado any day, though. Smaller path of destruction (though it
is reeeeally concentrated destruction) and it doesn't last for more than
10-15 minutes. Frickin' hurricane is huge and hangs around for days.
But I imagine 15 minutes in a tornado would seem like forever.

In 2003 hurricane Isabel came up the coast and my thinking was about how
great the weather was right after a hurricane. Loaded up the trike into
my 22" toy hauler and took off for the Outer Banks (OBX) of NC for some
camping/fishing. Got all set up and Isabel turned around the next
morning and came back ashore hanging around for two more days. NC12 (the
only highway out) was under water, I didn't have a dry thread, there was
no fresh water; totally a miserable decision on my part.
