Finished painting the Electra Glide a few weeks ago. The other day I
noticed that the three screws that hold the windshield in place have
lost the black coating they came with when new. Took them off and
scratched up the heads with a Scotch-Brite pad, hit 'em with primer and
some black enamel and then carefully put them back. Oooh! They look nice
and shiny now.

That's not the end of it. It gets worse.

I painted the bike mostly black. Link to photo of it:

I began looking at the rest of the bike and noticed other nuts and bolts
that would benefit from the same treatment. There were 6 on my oogah
horn (painted black,) the mounting hardware for the horn, 6 on the lock
(painted black) on my aftermarket tour pack, and some more that hold the
front fender skirt on (also painted black.) Instead of yanking all those
parts off and painting the fasteners I opted for the easy way out. I got
a bottle of Testors model car gloss black paint and a small detail brush
and carefully coated each nut and bolt head with it.

Now there is very little that visually interferes with the vast expanse
of shiny black metal and plastic.

Of course, TL would be out there polishing each nut and bolt with
compound, swirl remover and wax. I'm not quite to that point yet. I can
only dream of attaining that level of detailing ability. <sfsf>

As promised...serial killers:

When I worked for the police department I read some books on serial
killers. Profiles indicate that a majority of serial killers operate
well maintained black (or very dark colored) vehicles. Hmmmmmmm. I'm on
my 3rd all black car/truck, and this is the second time my bike has been
black. I pride myself on maintaining them and keeping them clean.

What color is *your* car, TL?

We all have different tastes and that's good....it keeps things from
being such a dull world.

There was a guy I used to know who would buy a black Harley of different
models and replace each and every fastener with stainless steel. The
difference (to my eye and a few others) was startling.

Did you ever post a close up of that tank emblem?
