I'm in the chair today, card is behind the bar, so please order the beverage
of your choice.
Being a foreigner, I'm having a bit of trouble getting my head around
motorcycle insurance in the US and was hoping that the patrons could share
their wisdom on the matter. We will be riding two up on a new bike. We
are already covered by our travel insurance for medical expenses in the
event of an accident, whoever causes it whether they are insured or not.
So far I have had two quotes over the phone (Progressive & State Farm).
Both companies sent me an email with just the bear information. I would be
extremely grateful (more beers barkeep) for an explanation of what they mean
and any advice on whether I should increase/decrease amounts mentioned, add
or take away any areas of coverage.
Progressive:-

Pedestrian First Party Benefits: $5,000 ($0 deductible)
Medical Payments: No coverage
Transport Trailer: No coverage
Vehicle Coverages for 2009 HARLEY-DAVIDSON ROAD GLIDE
Physical Damage Options: Total Loss Coverage
Comprehensive: $500 deductible (Total Loss Coverage)
Collision: $1,000 deductible (Total Loss Coverage)
Roadside Assistance: Selected
Accessory coverage: $3,000 (Included)
State Farm:-

AGE:48 U 25/50 $36.12 *
CRI:1835 W 25/50 $107.77 *
IRG:044 COMP $100 DED $76.75 *
LRG:35 COLL $500 DED $232.66 *
CC:1584
TOTAL PREMIUM $499.85 *
I realise that there are many variables to consider and I'm ready to answer
any questions for those with the time to help. Oh, and better get some more
beverages in, the cards still behind the bar. Just say it's to go on
Aitch's tab.
Cheers

What you have listed is pretty much what I carry (Progressive). Since you
have medical coverage with the travel insurance I think you'd be in good
shape
with the listed coverage.

I suggest you add uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage . Saved my ass
a couple of times and paid for my current bike . Of course they went ahead
and sued the guy that caused the wreck ... most likely ruined his life , but
that's what he gets for driving uninsured .

Also paid my med bills , time off work , and P&S .

Thanks Snag. If I'm reading the not so small print on the Progressive
website, should I get dinged by one of said low-lifes the bike will be
covered. Our medical costs will get picked up by the UK issued travel
insurance that we always have.
Cheers and another drink for yourself
