A slimmed down George and I met a three guys from work today and went
for a ride. We were supposed to meet at 9:00, but one of the guys got
stuck on a call so we didn't get to leave until 9:45. Oh well, what's
the rush?

We've been circulating email at work for the last week trying to find
a day we could all take off, and just yesterday we decided to take off
today, so I told my boss I needed the day off for some personal and
family stuff. I emailed George last night, and he said he was in. We
all met at the dealership, and just as we were leaving, my boss' peer
shows up. He manages the team next to mine, and also rides. He was
there to buy some bling for his wife's bike. I guess next time I need
to include him on the invite so he doesn't bust me with my boss.

Manny was our tour guide, riding a maroon Wing. He led us through
Leander, Cedar Park, Volente, Rollingwood, Westlake Hills, Bee Cave,
Dripping Springs, Wimberly, Driftwood, Gruene, New Braunfels, San
Marcos and Lost Creek. I may have missed a few. My favorite spots was
Purgatory road, and then the Devil's Backbone.

Archie, the neighbor of my workmate was riding a metric cruiser,
wearing chaps, and carrying a studded Harley man-purse over his
shoulder the whole way. He managed to run off the road in a loop de
loop, but otherwise did ok. He made up for his questionable attire by
ordering a $25 slice of BBQ'd prime rib, and eating every bit for
lunch.

After the day was through, we pulled over in the southern outskirts of
Austin to say our goodbyes, and that's when I noticed it. There was
some green, snot like substance all over my bike. I rubbed some on my
fingers, and brought my hand up to my nose to smell it, and
accidentally got some on my lips. I had no idea it was a powerful
hallucinogen.

At first my lips went numb, and then I felt tingly all over. The road
turned into a giant ribbon.

I dreamed I saw the bombers jet planes riding shotgun in the sky,
turning into butterflies, above our nation.

Either that, or I was listening to some old CSNY on the radio.

Suddenly an old girlfriend was sitting behind me, and I said:
"Hello Darlin', nice to see you,its been a long time", but then I
realized it was just Conway Twitty. Maybe they were playing the Neil
Young/Conway Twitty "Together at Last" album, one of my all time
favorites. It really showcases the best of BOTH kinds of music, if you
know what I mean.

Anyhow, I made it home safely, only to drink large quantities of
orange juice and eat all the snacks in the house.

Moral of the story: "If you get slimed, don't lick that stuff, it's
dangerous!"

Thanks for inviting me on the ride, Bob.

I still haven't figured out why 4 of the 5 riders had to travel 50 miles
to the meeting place, just to turn around and ride right back to where
we started.

Next time, let's go to Hico or Cranfills Gap.  You come down to Cowboy
HD and we'll start there.

Don't worry about cleaning the slime off your bike, it's permanent and
keeps the bugs from sticking, as you can tell by my bike.

Welcome to the slow moving group, Bob. Shirley set up a round for all.
I'm not riding 100 miles to Austin to meet, but let me know when you're
headed North and I'll meet in around Temple somewhere. I like the pie
in Hico and Cransfils Gap is OK but Yankee's has better burgers.
I'll be camped at the Rally in New Braunfels weekend after next, drop by
if you're down that way. There may be a beer in the cooler, if you get there
early enough, I'm setting up Thursday afternoon and be gone Sunday morning.
