Morning
Last Thursday dawned cool and comfortable. Oh, wait. Shirley a
libation for everyone, make mine an Irish coffee. Now, Last Thursday
morning I was going to ride over to Kickstarts. As I was walking out
the door my phone rang, it was Danny telling me he had to ride over to
Tampa to bring Saint Cindy her glasses. Something about her new
contacts bothering her. I told him I would hustle over and ride with
him. As I pulled into his driveway I damn near fell off the bike
laughing. There sat Danny on his Fatboy...Helmet with face shield,
tube scarf pulled up over his lower face, leather jacket and a pair of
jeans that looked insulated!!! It was only about 67 degrees out, not
47!!! At stop lights he would look over and say, "Aren't you cold?".
To which I would reply, "NO, It's nice out!". I posted a pic across
the street.
Another beverage for anyone what wants one Shirley.

I was bundled up with the insulated long johns , heavy scarf , even busted
out the 'lectric gloves for my trip to Mountain View last Tuesday . But it
was only like 37° here when I left ... topped out close to 70° , and had
dropped back to low 60's by the time I got home . It was a great ride !!

80 degrees here today. Did about 90 miles of Farm-to-Market
roads out in the countryside. Nice!
I'm _real_ glad all those 100+ degree days are finally over.

I know what you mean. Heat like that is just frickin' miserable. I don't
know any other way to describe it. (How about, "It's so hot I saw a bird
pick up a worm with a pot-holder!")
It's been unseasonably warm here in eastern Kansas the last few weeks.
Mid to upper 60s. Perfect riding weather - but of course I haven't been
able to ride. Been busier than a dung beetle on a pile of cow shit. Rode
to town once. Put on about 21 miles. Better than nothing, I guess. Also,
the front tire is so worn that I can see air through it and I hate to go
very far/fast. Figured that we'd be knee deep in snow by this time, so
why bother with a new tire right now. Little did I know.
What have I been so busy with? Gutted an old shed in the back of the
place. Put in new OSB "paneling," trimmed the inside of the windows and
doors, weatherized it, painted the walls, ceiling and floor bright
white, then rolled and hand painted the outside after caulking the
dickens out of it. Previous owners used it to raise goats, but now it's
damn near nice enough to live in. Seriously.
One of these days it's gonna get cold and snowy, though. When it does
I'm gonna pull the tank off the bike and repaint it. Repainted the whole
bike last winter, but I wasn't happy with the way the tank looked. Then
I plan on replacing some stuff. Throttle cables, a motor mount or
two...might even replace the final drive belt. (66K miles on it.)
Probably good for a few more, but I'd feel better with a new one, and
I'd rather do it at home when *I* want to do it. It's not a "road side
repair" project.

Dave's new "guest room"? Don't forget a stout hasp. On the *outside*!
