Long time lurker, second time poster.
Plastic is on the counter, but I'll leave it up to Shirley to dispense
the poison of preference.

I just ordered a set of bags & windshield from LeatherUp.com and I'm
wondering if anybody has experience with the site?  Smartly, I'd have
asked this before ordering - but hey, that's where stupidity comes in.

2005 XL1200C, customer paint and a bobtail fender.

The windshield I have faith and confidence will fit, since it does list
my ride as one it fits, although so many are listed it may as well be
called "Universal".  https://www.leatherup.com/site/product?pid 6215

Saddlebags I ordered are claimed to be 'universal', but my concern is
whether or not they'll be supported and not rub my rear wheel without the
use of some sort of bracket.  The concern is because I don't have the
typical full fender wrapping further down along the wheel, but the
shorted bobtail instead.

Interesting in folks' thoughts and opinions on the site in general and on
the potential problems with the bags.

Free round to all, but extra shot to those who answer.

I'll follow-up with success/failure when they come in (Aug. 15th
delivery).  Thanks in advance.

Weird speedometer problem, but heading to the Stealership tomorrow
morning to hopefully get that straightened out.  Barring success, I'll be
back with even more liquor in tow.

You need saddlebag braces to tie the bags to. Otherwise when you go
around a curve one bag will want to hand down towards the ground while
the other wants to fall into the wheel. Plus, just riding down the road,
the wind will have those bags flapping all over the place.

Thanks, DM.  I thought braces of some sort might still be needed, thank
you for confirming that.  Once that bags come in I'll see what I can
finagle to work, or head to a local custom shop and see if I can get away
for less than what HD wants to sell them for.

I've learned a lot reading through RMH over the years, I appreciate it
all!

Bags & sportshield came in.  Sportshield looks a little 'off' sitting on
a Sportster, sacrilegious in fact, but it serves a purpose.  And can
always be removed in about 10mins when not simply using the bike to get
from A to B, and just want to ride to enjoy.

Bags look fantastic.  Ended up not needing a bracket for them. I was able
to hide a zip-tie underneath and attach it to the rear suspension in a
safe spot.  Had to remove the turn signals, but since I typically use
hand signals anyway it's not such a big deal. I may get slim LED turn
signals to sit on the tail-end of the strut if I decide to add them back
in the future. (Open to suggestions.)

Another round of drinks on my if you took the time to read my nonsense.

<snip some>

Some states (NJ) require signals if they are manufacturer's installation.
I did get past the inspection back in the 70's when my turn signals didn't
work on my old VW.  The inspector (Newark of course), said "Left signal", I
stuck my arm out the window, "Right signal", I pointed up... He said "Horn",
I yelled BEEP!  He passed me.
