Bartender, set up those in attendance for a bit of discussion. I
have a 97 FLSTF that needs a rear tire again, and as I recall I ended
up settling for the Dunlop 491 last year because of an availability
issue due to my shopping in the spring season.I forgot what tire was
my first choice back then, but it was a higher mileage touring
compound,I am thinking it mighta been the 591.I thought I would once
again plumb thre collective wisdom of the group on a suitable
replacement as well as get an opinion or two on where to buy. Thanks
for any good advice, and help yourselves to another.

Dunlop Elite III seems to be fairly popular for wear and performance
combined. I havn't tried 'em yet but quite a few here have.

Got about 6k on the rear and it shows very little wear ('90 Ultra).
Just mounted the front over the weekend , dunno about mileage yet . I
can say that it handles better with the E3 up front than it did with the
D402 . Handling is great on dry roads , wet handling is OK , can't say
more cuz I haven't ridden in the wet much .
Do a little googling , there are several places that will sell them
for around 200 a pair . Mine came from Discount Tire in Aridzona IIRC .

I am always amazed at how much better my bike handles with new tires. LOL.
I personally thinkt he only way you could compare would be to swap beack and
forth between equally worn tires whether new, half worn, or starting to show
the wear marks.

Sorry, couldn't resist, but it IMO its hard to make an accurate assessment
when just getting off of used rubber and riding on some new rubber.

Ah , but the tire I replaced wasn't worn out . It had a couple
hundred miles more than the rear I replaced last summer . I ran it
because it WAS a new tire when I got the bike . I just figgered that
while I had the wheel off for other stuff was a good time to mount the
one that's been waiting in my shed for a year now . Bought this set of
E3's for Bag Lady just before the wreck .
