... not convinced it'll sell like we first planned.

I've been watching a few of 'em on ebay. The auction ended today for a
'71 with V8 and fewer miles, $2K opening bid and no bidders. If 4 door
Novas won't bring any more than that, I'll sell my S-10 and some
projects instead. That's well below what we figured we'd have to get
from it in order to sell.

We've talked it over and if at all possible, we're gonna keep the Nova.
I'm looking at renting a storage unit for a couple of months so I can
clean and sort everything in the garage and storage building. Gonna try
to make enough room to put the Nova in the garage.

Molly's dad picked the car up from his aunt's house last week. She's 94
and recently fell, breaking her hip. She finally came to an
understanding that she doesn't need to drive any more. It's been over a
year since she'd drove the few blocks to the store. The last time the
car was started before last week was in July, when he took her to the
store in it.

He took his battery charger and a small gas can to get the car. He tried
cranking it over before hooking up the charger and was amazed that it
cranked over just fine. He poured a little gas down the carb it it fired
right up.

The 250 is a little cold natured, but after a couple of minutes, it was
ready to idle fine on it's own. I let it run and warm up while checking
the dash lights and left tail light. Both decided to start working
before I headed home.

As near as I can tell, everything on the car is working, except the AM
radio. Actually, I never tried it, but the antenna is missing...

The drive home was great, the engine purred along, the Powerglide
shifted nice and strong, the steering and brakes seem pretty decent. We
did notice that the water pump is loose. It'll get replaced ASAP.

If we're able to keep the car, I'll see about getting the front seat
redone with the original type material, as well as replacing the arm
rest and window crank handle. I'll check the car over better in the
daylight, but I really don't think it needs much more than this.

I figured out that I missed getting a picture of the headliner. I'll
take one later this week, it's in as good of condition as the back seat.

Yeah, Molly has talked about this car for close to 20 years. She's
always wanted us to get it. I never saw it until a couple of weeks ago,
as her great aunt very seldom drove.

Les, I did a similar drive from Ventura CA with me wee ebaY '63 Nova ragtop,
cept the 194's a little bit more anemic than the 250. Ran like a little
sewing machine tho, an gave me 25 MPG on the freeway.

If yer lookin fer Nova specific parts an pieces an strike out at the local
salvage yard, try somea these guys:

There's a lotta parts particular to Novas in general. 'Specially the older
(ChevyII) ones.

Lotsa techy tips at:

Mine gots a 10 bolt rear end now, an power brakes with discs in front. It's

Nuttin' wrong with those old straight 250's. X-sister in law had one in a
'69 Chevelle when I was 16-17 and it was no slouch. Loved that thing, except
all she could afford was retreads and they had a bad habit of throwing the
outers when spinning up the tires on pavement. (Yup, I replaced them when I
fragged 'em). She was a great gal (my sister in law), for giving me
"practice" time in that car.
