Welcome to 1960! "Bikers" are loud, dangerous, & there are too many of
them!
I've felt good about out living that concept for quite a few years now.
I wonder how Myrtle Beach is going to feel when the effect of that decision is
felt a little later in this economy. I don't actually care since my one
motorcycle event there didn't create enough interest to go again, & the few
times I've passed through their attitude kept me moving along. Now I won't have
any reason to even pass through.........Works for me....<shrug>

My first time to Myrtle was for the 1957 "rally". Probably 250 of us.
Motels wouldn't
rent to bikers. Slept on a park bench.

I've been having some fun with thier Media Communications manager, I've used
my work e-mail that uses my name and title "Carmen Vitullo"
when she "Nancy" repied to my E-mail this is what I got, a cut and paste
right from the website, except for my name..
Ms. Vitullo--I'm offering this response on behalf of the Myrtle Beach Area
Chamber of Commerce. I regret that the debate surrounding the motorcycle
rallies is causing you to rethink your vacation plans to the area. We
welcome all visitors, regardless of their mode of travel (motorcycle, car,
or plane).
The city of Myrtle Beach, with a population of about 25,000 residents,
swells to hundreds of thousands at times during May for the bike rallies.
The influx of motorcycles all at once presents numerous challenges for the
city. Most of those challenges, such as traffic management and special event
permitting, have been successfully handled for many years now.
However, the number of arrests, property crimes, traffic citations, and
noise violations during the rallies has grown to the point that residents
have essentially said "enough is enough." Most residents and businesses
recognize that any large group is likely to attract a few problems. However,
the number of problems (as measured by arrests, property crimes, traffic
citations, and noise violations) experienced during the May rallies far
exceeds the problems experienced during the busiest weeks of the summer,
although peak summer visitation exceeds May rally visitation by as much as
50 percent.
The Myrtle Beach City Council has acknowledged the request of its residents,
who have asked the city to do what it can to end the bike rallies. Though
the city itself can't do this, the city council has taken the necessary
actions to curtail the rallies within city limits.
Approximately 14 million visitors make the Grand Strand their destination
each year. The city and its residents generally welcome all visitors, as
long as they obey all local laws. I hope you'll reconsider your plans to
vacation elsewhere. As a law-abiding visitor, you'll surely continue to find
the Myrtle Beach area very enjoyable.

this is how I responded.
Nancy, why would you assume I am a woman? And an unmarried woman to boot?
My name is Mr.Carmen Vitullo, and I didn't expect a response or a cut and
paste from your website.........
and her response....
I apologize for the name error. Up to this point, I had only heard of
female Carmens. I'll keep this in mind.
