Some don't mind the new Touring seats. I always said the dresser Touring
seats were *just* not bad enough to need replaced. I wasn't so sure of that
when I started putting some miles on the '10. Despite the spec saying the
seat height is the same as on previous dressers everyone agrees it feels
higher. I always figured this was due to the wider nose forcing your legs
wider with feet down. One thing I noticed about that, especially when coming
to an abrupt stop, it didn't feel as natural getting your feet down in a
hurry. Some rear-seaters noticed they could no longer see around the
driver's gourd. Some also didn't like the new rear seat's sloping towards
the Tour Pak. Others couldn't seem to put on more than a couple of hundred
miles without a seriously dead ass.
I really liked the '04 - '07 Comfort Stitch saddle. It was almost perfect
for me. While I didn't find the newer seats totally uncomfortable I missed
the lower seating position from the '05 & '07 as well as the narrower nose
and firmer foam. The foam on the new seats is spongy crap! These seats also
retain water that ooozes through the seams for days after riding in the rain
although the vapor barriers don't show any water intrusion when you rip 'em
apart.
In Jan. '09 H-D made a mid-year change to the seat in an effort to lower it.
If you have a later year '09 or '10 they ripped some foam out right where
the pressure points of your butt touch the seat. Bad move. Here's a thread
about that:
http://www.hdforums.com/forum/mean-city-cycles/353592-09-ultra-eg-touring-seat-getting-worse.html
As many know, I stopped near Charlotte last October and had Mean City Cycles
reflog my seat. They removed all the driver's foam and replaced it with two
layers of memory foam. When asked what kind of seat I preferred I said I
like to sink into it on top and have firm support prior to touching the pan.
They put heavier hospital-grade memory foam on the bottom and a layer of
softer foam on top. I also had them narrow the nose. I now sit almost 1/2 -
1" lower and the nose of the seat doesn't spead my legs with feet down. One
person with a new '10 dresser that couldn't flat-foot their bike sat on mine
and was able to be flat-footed. Cost of that "Double-Decker" mod was 140
clams and well worth it, IMO.
H-D listened to the griping about the '09 / '10 Touring seats and made a
mid-year change effective 1/18/10. The Technical Service Bulletin advising
dealers (that they don't read anyway) is M-1265. They replaced the soft foam
with some firmer stuff, lowered the seating position about an inch and
narrowed the nose. According to reports the rear no longer slopes back
towards the Tour Pak and the rear seaters approve. Here's a couple of
threads discussing it.

While most replacement seats are in the 300+ dollar range H-D is offering
the replacement for $154 for 90 days... sometime in April the price is
expected to go up to the $300 range. Chicago H-D has the new seat for $123
and Zanotti's has it priced at $130. Reports indicated Chicago H-D had been
backordered for a while.
