Does anyone have any experience with the new matte paint sets.  I have
read an hd.net bulliton (m-1172)that says dont use anything (no bug
remover, nothing) on it but soap and water.  A guy in another group
says he has the black night train and he waxes it all the time with
turtle wax ice.  Any other experience out there with this paint?

I dunno. A painter at the factory in Tomahawk told me to never put
anything on it other than soap and water. He said it's not sealed (or
something) and once you get wax into it, you'll never get it out.

I've asked exactly that question to a dealer and, just recently, a
bike painter and the verdict from them is unanimous:

DO NOT WAX THAT PAINT JOB!

If you wax it, it'll get shiny and you'll never get the 'shiny' out.
I've heard that even rubbing it hard in one spot (like when you're
trying to get off a stubborn bug stain) will leave a shiney spot.
Once that happens, the only way to fix the paint job is to repaint the
entire affected part.

Just like you were told, just soap and water.  Nothin' else and be a
bit gentle.

(got a Street Bob in black denim on order myself, so that's why I've
also been looking into this subject)

I've been seeing you mention that bike now and then and been meaning to
tell you: I frickin' love that bike. I test rode one last fall and it
was so much fun. If I were in the market for a new bike, that would be
the one.

Thanks.  That's the way it struck me too, Dustin.  For years, I've had
no intention of getting a new bike, because nothing in HD's lineup
intrigued me - until coming across that black FXDB.

It's unfortunate there's questions about the durability of the finish
because I think it looks perfect on a bike.
